MSF Mapathon

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) invites you to participate in virtual mapathon event with colleagues and supporters from around the world. The event will have an introduction and a talk from a field worker in English, with simultaneous interpretation available in Spanish. Following a training for beginners on how to map and save buildings, break-out rooms will be open in English and Spanish, with MSF facilitators ready provide individual support and chat further.

The focus of the mapathon will be northwestern Nigeria, where many people suffer from Noma - a neglected disease that affects those living in poverty. Up to 90% of people affected by Noma die within the first two weeks, if left untreated. MSF offers patient care and outreach activities to treat and prevent Noma. Therefore we seek to create base maps to support teams on the ground, to reach isolated rural populations.

This event is part of OpenStreetMap’s Geography Awareness Week, during which a global coalition of partners, community groups, and map lovers will join together to celebrate geography and contribute to MSF's humanitarian work in the field!
